Nicholas A. Varec, 36, of Emmaus, was on the clock at a worksite on the 4100 block of West Mountainview Drive in Lehigh Township on Wednesday, Jan. 4, said Coroner Daniel A. Buglio.
At around 12:20 p.m., Varec became pinned between "construction equipment and a trench box," the coroner continued. He was rushed to Lehigh Valley Hospital in Muhlenberg, where he died at 2 p.m.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration told Daily Voice that Varec was employed by Dirt Work Solutions of Slatington, an excavating contractor.
His official cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy scheduled for Friday, Jan. 6, Buglio said. The accident remains under investigation by OSHA and Lehigh Township police.
According to his Facebook, Varec attended Emmaus High School and leaves behind a daughter.
